Foodmark once again chooses labelling machines from HM Systems

"We have chosen to work with HM System again not only because the labelling machines have been working reliably for decades, but mostly because Ole and HM System have always provided us with quick and reliable support. This is incredibly valuable for us, as we need to ensure that our production can always keep running — especially during our high season in the summer, when the machines can't stand still for even a minute!"

says Mikaela Norén, Project Engineer hos Foodmark AB

After many years of reliable operation with HM Systems’ labelling equipment, Swedish food manufacturer Foodmark has decided to invest in new machines – once again from HM Systems.

A long-term partnership and a deep understanding of the customer’s needs are the foundation for a relationship that today is described as a true collaboration.

To me, Foodmark isn’t just a customer. Many refer to their customers as partners, but in this case, it truly fits: a partner we know inside and out,” says Ole Kristensen, Sales Manager at HM Systems. “We know what they need and how we can best help them maintain operations that simply work.

Reliable labelling for over 25 years

The current labelling solution on Foodmark’s 200g line was delivered more than two decades ago, after another supplier failed mid-way through the testing phase.

HM Systems (then known as Fischer) stepped in immediately with an urgent solution and quickly delivered the labelling setup that is now being replaced – after 25 years of reliable performance.

The machines we installed back then have just kept running and running,” says Ole Kristensen. “It’s the same machines we’re now replacing. That speaks volumes about the quality – and about the relationship we’ve built with Foodmark.”

Ole Kristensen has worked with Foodmark since 1994, and the relationship extends far beyond ordinary customer service. He describes the feeling of visiting them as “coming home”. A trust that has been built up over decades.

When I visit Foodmark, I greet everyone. It's people i have worked with and known for years. They said it themselves: They can count on us.”

Labelling with a focus on the environment and legislation

Foodmark uses plastic labels that match the packaging material. This is no coincidence but something they’ve worked hard to achieve, and it has required a number of adjustments.

EU legislation is increasingly requiring manufacturers to use labels that do not interfere with recycling. Mismatched materials can result in fines and hinder reuse.

It’s important for Foodmark to stay ahead of legislation. It’s presented them with challenges over the years, but we’ve supported them all the way – ensuring their labelling equipment is up to date and future-proof,” says Ole Kristensen.

According to the EU Packaging Regulation (proposal from 2022): “Labels should be made of the same material as the packaging to ensure recyclability and avoid contamination of recycling streams.

Technical setup: High speed and precision

On Foodmark’s 200g line, 160 cups are labelled per minute with three labels: one on each side and one on the top. The solution includes 3 x HM3000S labelling machines with motorised rewind units.

The product flow is optimised with a rotary table as a buffer, due to limited space on the line after the labelling station. This means the machine does not need to be emptied manually during stops, minimising downtime and ensuring continuous production.
