The HM4000S Cross Web with integrated tilt system enables accurate bottom labelling of triangular sandwich packs and other packaging with fixed angled surfaces. The adjustable labelling angle supports precise placement and efficient changeovers between different formats.
Triangular sandwiches have become a familiar sight in supermarkets, convenience stores and petrol stations. Their distinctive packaging makes the product easy to recognise, but its shape also creates a particular challenge in production.
When the label is applied to the underside, it must be placed on a surface with a fixed angle. This places specific demands on the labelling solution if placement is to remain accurate and consistent throughout production.
In conventional bottom labelling, the labelling unit is typically positioned horizontally beneath the product path. On a triangular sandwich pack, however, the labelling surface is angled, which means the label is not applied from the optimal direction.
The HM4000S Cross Web can be equipped with an integrated tilt system that allows the labelling unit to be adjusted freely from 0 to 45 degrees. This enables the unit to be positioned more parallel to the underside of the packaging and closer to the surface where the label is applied.
The result is a more controlled label transfer and accurate placement without changing the orientation of the product on the line. The angle is set for the relevant packaging format and remains stable throughout production.
The function has been developed for bottom labelling of triangular sandwiches, but it may also be suitable for other types of packaging with a fixed angled labelling surface.
Convenience food manufacturers often work with several sandwich varieties, pack sizes and packaging formats on the same production line.
The HM tilt system has four programmable memory positions, allowing different settings to be stored and recalled during product changeovers.
The operator therefore does not need to determine the correct angle manually each time a format returns to production. This reduces setup time and ensures that the same configuration can be repeated across production runs.
“Triangular sandwiches clearly demonstrate why the labelling solution must be designed around the shape of the packaging. With the tilt system, we can adapt the angle of the bottom labeller to the sloping surface and create the right conditions for accurate and consistent labelling.”

With the HM4000S Cross Web and its integrated tilt system, manufacturers gain a flexible solution for accurate bottom labelling of triangular sandwiches and other packaging with fixed angled labelling surfaces.
The adjustable angle and stored positions also make it easier to switch between different packaging formats.
